Ways to Give

At the Clay Center Community Improvement Foundation, we offer a wide range of flexible, tax-effective giving options to help donors achieve their charitable goals.

 Cash

Cash is the simplest way to give and qualifies for the maximum allowable income tax deduction.

 Marketable or Closely-Held Securities

Gifts of appreciated stocks or bonds may be deducted at their current market value. Donors can also avoid capital gains tax. To transfer securities, contact our office.

 Real Estate

Donating real estate allows for a full charitable deduction based on market value while avoiding capital gains tax.

 Life Insurance

  • Transfer ownership of a policy and receive a current tax deduction.

  • Name the foundation as a beneficiary, resulting in a future estate tax deduction.

 Retirement Plans

Use an IRA, 401(k), 403(b), or other retirement account to create or contribute to a fund. These assets can be powerful tools for charitable giving.

 Bequests

Including the foundation in your will or trust ensures your charitable wishes are honored and may reduce estate taxes.

Transfer from an Existing Private Foundation

Converting a private foundation to a fund at the community foundation offers a simpler, cost-effective alternative for long-term impact.

 Retained Income Gifts

You can give and still receive income for life or a set term:

  • Charitable Gift Annuities: Provide lifetime income with potential tax benefits.

  • Charitable Remainder Trusts: Deliver income to you or a loved one, with the remainder supporting your charitable goals.

  • Charitable Lead Trusts: Provide current income to a fund, with the remaining assets eventually going to heirs—often with estate tax advantages.

 Gift of Grain

A gift of grain can be used to start or support an endowed fund for your family, a nonprofit, or the broader community. It's a meaningful way to grow the future of Clay County. Learn more
