Clay County Historical Society

The Clay County Historical Society is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Clay County, Kansas. Founded in 1972, the Society maintains the Clay County Museum and three historic buildings, housing over 100,000 artifacts—many of which have been digitized to safeguard their legacy and enhance community research. The Society actively collaborates with local schools and engages visitors through educational programs like the One Room Schoolhouse Day, reaching hundreds of students annually.
To better preserve and showcase our heritage, the Society seeks support for necessary improvements, including warehouse wall repairs, enhanced climate control for artifact storage, updated display lighting, and new interactive exhibit technology. Future goals include repairing buildings at Sportsman Park, developing self-guided tours, and creating engaging interactive spaces to enrich visitor experiences for all ages.
