Gift of Grain

Posted Tuesday August 30, 2022

Match Day Gift of Grain

Your crops are your livelihood, your life. You prepare, you plant, you nurture and it grows. That’s what we do with the charitable gifts entrusted to the community foundation and we invite you to grow the future of our community with us.

Donating a gift of grain to the community foundation is a simple way to make a lasting difference. The value of the grain can be used to start a donor-advised fund in the name of your family, for a specific nonprofit organization important to you, or support the overall charitable causes in the area. No matter what type of fund you choose to establish or support, you can be sure that your gift of grain is growing the future of the local area.

By giving grain to the Clay Center Community Improvement Foundation, you avoid including the sale of the grain in your farm income, but you still deduct the cost of growing the crops, which typically results in saving on your taxes. You can find the form at all of our local elevators, or on our website and it allows you to choose which fund of the foundation you would like to support.

On September 15th, you have the opportunity to do "more good" for the Clay Center community with your gift of grain through Gather for Good Match Day! All gifts made through the community foundation on this day will be eligible for a match from generous match day donors. To receive this added match for the community, your gift of grain must be processed at least one week in advance of Match Day (by September 8th). If you are interested in donating grain, please call (785) 587-8995 and ask for Marla.

Don't have grain to donate? Haven't harvested yet? No problem, open a donor-advised fund anytime and use it to accomplish your charitable giving goals AND make your Gather for Good Match Day donation!

A donor-advised fund allows you to create a lasting gift in your name or in the name of a loved one by acting like a private foundation without the administrative work and expense. You will receive an immediate tax deduction at the time the gift is made to the foundation.

These funds provide an excellent way to build a tradition of charitable giving in a family. Many donors choose to involve their children or grandchildren as advisors during their lifetime or to involve them as successor advisors after they are no longer actively involved with the fund. Donor-advised funds can be used to make your Gather for Good Match Day donation and receive a prorated match from the $35,000 in available matching funds!

To get started, call Marla at (785) 587-8995.
